Force on Force has arrived!

Today Force on Force arrived in the mail, so this afternoon was spent reading it, getting a little confused by the rules, reading it again then realizing it wasn't so confusing after all.
A very nicely laid out book. There's some great artwork in it by Osprey Publishings as well, along with references to miniature websites in the beginning.
I've read you can cover pretty much any post-WWII conflict, and when I heard that I automatically thought of a fictitious Second American Revolution, but I'm having second thoughts partially because I'd have to convert a lot of miniatures to do that.
I started looking to the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988) and the Indo-Pakistani Wars of 1965 and 1971 (Elhiem has a line for that). I've done research on both conflicts and I must say they are both quite interesting. However, I think I should just read the book before I jump to conclusions.
Stay tuned!

Force on Force is on it's way!

TToday I ordered Osprey Publishing's "Force on Force" modern wargaming rules.
An interesting fact: this is the first set of wargame rules that I haven't made up on my own!
After talking it over with my good friend James, we'll be gaming in a modern Second American Revolution (or Second American Civil War), which takes place during a military coup d'etat in 2012.
The situation is basically that the U.S. Army along with the support of friendly militias overthrow the U.S. Government (this is purely fictitious, I don't believe this will happen, more like a "what if" scenario). An army called the "American People's Army" forms and begins to fight the U.S. Army across the country from Arizona to New York city. Both sides of the war have civilian militias supporting their causes.
Another thought I had was the Iran-Iraq War, but its starting to lean more towards the Second Revolution.
I will be picking some miniatures up from Syr Hobbs Wargames sometime in the near future. We're back to 20mm, WOOOO!! I also just noticed that this is my 100th Post. Another hooray for the Basement Wargamer.
Stay tuned!

Status Report (July 5, 2012)

Had a great 4th of July celebration in Boston with my family. Did some great exploring and enjoyed the awesome fireworks in the rain, which actually made it more fun.
A view of the South End. Come to find out, my grandfather actually designed one of the hotels down around there (a majority of my family is from the Boston area, including me).

Me at the Reflection Pool at the Christian Church of Science, probably doing some... you know... reflecting...
Anyway, I should be ordering a copy of Force on Force rather soon. I'll just have to read it and maybe even review it!
Stay tuned!

Last of the Soviet Strelkovy Company painted up

Today I finished painting the last of the Soviet Late War Strelkovy. May I just say I am glad that's over.
Between the poor motivation to paint all 44 of those little guys, and the damn heat, progress was very slow.
Anyway, let's get to the preview!

And that's it! This really made me miss the 20mm scale, and after talking it over with my friend James, we're probably going to look into a fictitious conflict taking place during a U.S. Military coup d'etat. With that being said, I've finally found a rule system I'd like to use.
Force on Force sounds like my cup of tea. After watching a few reviews on YouTube, from what I've gathered the rules can apply to really any force or army, and it doesn't sound too incredibly complicated.

The rulebook is very cheap, also. About 20 dollars on Amazon, and the miniatures used for it are cheap and a good scale as well.
I plan on buying it after my trip to Boston on the 4th of July. Obviously, I won't be around on the 4th, so in advance to my fellow American viewers, Happy 4th of July! Enjoy your fireworks safely.
I'll be sure to keep the updates coming, so stay tuned!

Satus Report (June 21, 2012)

The Soviet Strelkovy company is almost done! Although, I've been doing some "soul-searching". I tend to have a really (and I mean really) hard time making up my mind with things.
I'm caught between doing Flames of War, or sticking with 20mm and doing a fictitious conflict, maybe the 2nd American Civil War.
Very confused at the moment. So the ultimatum, stick with 20mm or do Flames of War?

Soviet progress thus far

I've managed to paint a few Soviets over the past few days, and I thought I'd show you how I'm doing. They're not the best, and let me just say I think they're very far from good.
Anyway, here they are!

If you ask me, they all look absolutely terrible from the basing to the paint job its self (not to mention the incredibly heavy wash, which is awful as well). But then again, that's my overall cynicism kicking in.
Anyway, tell me what you think. I'll probably paint more up and I'll go lighter on the wash.
Stay tuned!

Soviet Comrades have arrived!

After a great weekend with my friend James at his families' summerhouse at Pemaquid Point, I got home and found that my package had come in the mail containing the Late War Soviet Strelkovy company that I ordered. I'll get to that in a second, but first...

The wide-open Atlantic Ocean!

Alright, no more funny business. I was very excited to get these.

Here they are all based with spackling.
Since I've never painted WWII-era Soviets, I'll have to do some test figures that I had left over.
Stay tuned!
