West Germany 1978 Game Part 5: Canadians hold Hill 816

Day 2 of battle continues with the Canadians holding the hill, but still making minor advances.
Turn 27: Me
I still hold the hill. Another scenic photo from Andre the Camera Man.
Turn 28: Brody
Brody moves his sniper to the roof of a townhouse, which puts him just out of range of my soldiers on the ridge.
Turn 29: Me
Knowing full well that I might be attacked, I move 3 soldiers up to attack his sniper on the roof. I roll the attack die, and I get a 4. I use 2 of them on Brody's sniper.
Brody's sniper... dead! Ring the liberation bells!
Turn 30: Brody
Unbeknownst to me, one of Brody infantry platoons was is in range of one of my Canadian rifleman. Brody rolls the attack die, gets a 3 and unfortunately kills one of my Canucks.

The first Canadian casualty of the game. He will be missed...
Turn 31: Me
With my troops angry, I still hold the ridge. (This picture was taken by Andre the Camera Man).

And the first civilian casualty occurs. Andre the Cameraman will no longer be taking scenic pictures. That's my job now... Maybe I'll bring him back to life for Part 6.
 Turn 32: Brody
A rifleman along with the officer that killed one of men move up to the hill. Oh, what audacity!

Another Canadian... dead.
Turn 33: Me
I move up a reservist. He's yet to see battle...

Using 3 riflemen, I kill Brody's officer. That's what he gets for killing 2 Canadians!
Turn 34: Brody
Brody's OTHER sniper. Oh, goody. He moves the sniper from the trench a little further towards my Canadians.
Turn 35: Me
With my reservists heading towards Hill 816 to hold it, I send in a platoon and a half of Canadians. My plans are yet to be de-classified.
Much more to come!

West Germany 1978 Game Part 4: First contact with the Russians

The game continues...
Turn 23: Me
I roll a 6 and the first Canadians are beginning to hit the hill. (Much to Brody's dismay).
Turn 24: Brody
Brody moves 4 units up towards the hill, including the sniper.

Turn 25: Me
A decent roll winds me up on the hill, in range of Brody's officers. I roll the attack die, and I get a 3. Just enough to kill one of Brody's officers.
Bam! First casualty of the game.

My view from the hill. (Ignore the Camera man Andre down on the ground).
Turn 26: Brody
The sniper is in view. What will happen? Find out soon...

Thinking of taking a break from 20mm...

I starting thinking today about plans for 2012, and one of them was to focus a little more on a non-fictional, probably WWII wargame in a 15mm scale, probably using Flames of War miniatures. I'll probably come up with a completely different game when I get some more 15mm minis, but don't hold your breath, this is just a thought.
What do you guys think?

West Germany 1978 Game Part 3: Norwegian Advances/Canadian Assault

Turn 7: Me
I roll a 4 and move up more of my Norwegians. For one of my rifle platoons, the objective is in sight.
Turn 8: Brody
Brody moves his first sniper up to the trench (sorry for the blur).
Turn 9: Me
The rifle platoon that could continues to move towards the rock. They're almost there!
Turn 10: Brody
One of the more "Scenic" photos from the battle, if you ask me. I almost want to put it in black and white and frame it. I'm only half-joking of course, but Brody moves his forces up into the trench a little more, all while making the fate of the Americans all but certain.
Turn 11: Me
The Norwegian rifle platoon is now hiding behind the safety of the rock, because Brody's troops in the trench are only about 20 inches away, which is close enough for the snipers to get me.
I move the other 2 platoons up to assist with the taking of the rock.
My rifleman are almost in range of the Russians.

Turn 12: Brody
Brody continues to hold the trench, and he's aware of my presence at the rock.
Turn 13: Me
I now have 2 whole platoons at the rock, with 1 soldier to spare. I'm moving the GPMG up to assist them. I haven't decided what my plan of action is after the rock, maybe it's to assist in the full frontal assault against the trench with the Americans.
Turn 14: Brody
Brody continues movement up to the trench, which I think he might sense something up with the Norwegians, maybe a possible attack.

Turn 15: Me
With the GPMG at the rock finally, I can finally focus on my second objective requiring the Canadians, Hill 816.

The first Canadians move up to the hill. I'm trying not to make too many Canucks attack right now, but just a few to see if I'm in range of the snipers. A test, if you will.
Turn 16: Brody
Strength at the trench is at full swing. Brody is probably contemplating a full-on frontal assault, so I'll have to be a little more tactical about this.
Turn 17: Me
More Canadians move up, but I still need to keep some reserves. The hill is in sight, and within a few turns, I'll probably be within the vicinity of the town.
Turn 18: Brody
Starting a poor-role spree, Brody rolls a 2 and moves up 2 Officers.
Turn 19: Me
More Canadians move up (I used flash for this one, lighting was a little poor).
Turn 20: Brody
Brody continues to move his officers up.
Turn 21: Me
I have finally reached hill 816. Now all there is, is to hold the hill.
Turn 22: Brody
A horrible roll from Brody.

With his 1 turn, his moves his sniper closer to the Canadians.
We'll continue the game later, so stay tuned!

West Germany 1978 Game Part 2: Early Action/Norwegian Assault

As the battle commences, I think up a quick plan of action, and it involves my Norwegians.
Turn 1: Me
I roll a 4, not bad for a first roll. I move 1 Rifle Platoon up along with my Reconnaissance platoon.
Turn 2: Brody
Brody rolls a 5 and begins to move his troops up to the trench, which I have my eye on.

Barrows takes part in the attack as well. May I ask what Barrows is even doing here? He doesn't even have Russian equipment at all.
Turn 3: Me
The first 6 of the game is rolled by me, so I move all of my Norwegians up towards their objective, which is currently about a half-kilometre away.
Turn 4: Brody
One of my big fears becomes a reality, Brody has begun to move his troops to the trenches, which puts a halt to my plan of moving the Norwegians up with not resistance at all.

Turn 5: Me
I roll a measly old 2 and move a rifle platoon up. At this point in time, the objective is to take the rock, which is just a little up ahead.
Turn 6: Brody
Brody continues to move troops up into the trenches. At that point I realized that it was actually a good thing that he was doing that. You see, my plan of action is to take the rock with the Norwegians, then to take the hill to the right of the town with the Canadians, and then using full force with the Americans.

More to come, stay tuned!

West Germany 1978 Game Part 1: Briefing

Sorry I haven't been uploading pictures of the new painted minis, the camera was kaput up until about yesterday.
So, with that said, Brody and I started a wargame last night at around 3:30. I'm in the process of choosing new miniatures to replace the old Russians that I was using for the modern game, and maybe buying some Cold War era Ruskies (and maybe some East Germans)
Situation:
The year is 1978. The Russian Army is ploughing into West Germany. 3 Armies in that Area, the Norwegians, the Americans and the Canadians attack the Russians in a Communist-held town.
Forces:
 NATO:
x3 American Infantry Companies
-1 Recce Company
-1 Anti-Armour/Support Company
-1 Infantry Company
x1 Canadian Rifle Company+ 1 Platoon
-1 Recce Platoon
-3 Infantry Platoons
-1 Command Platoon
x3 Norwegian Infantry Platoons
-1 Recce Platoon
-2 Rifle Platoon

Warsaw Pact:
x4 Russian Infantry Companies
-1 Recce Company
-2 Heavy Companies
-1 Rifle Company

The town we're playing in, I know, it isn't too too different from the places we've played in the past.

The Canadians

The Norwegians

1 Company of Americans

And another.

Part II will probably be along shortly, so stay tuned!
