West Germany 1978 Game Part 6: Canadians stay put/Norwegians take trench

The battle continues and Brody kicks the game off with a single rifleman.
Turn 36: Brody

Starting right were the battle left off, right near the hill.

Brody's medic is standing still. He rolls, misses and it goes to me.

Turn 37: Me

I move 2 Canadians back to the hill, 1 towards the hill and 2 more reservists up.

I get a two, and another decent roll after this one sealed Brody's rifleman's fate.

TAKE THAT!!! Brody's medic is dead. He'll be at the graveyard soon. 

Turn 38: Brody

Brody gets a decent 4 and moves up 2 platoons to the trench.

Turn 39: Me

I hold my ground on the hill. These Canadians are veterans now. I think this is it for them in the battle.

Turn 40: Brody

Brody's first good roll for the day gets him a 6. He continues to move 2 platoons up to the trench.

He moves another platoon up to the bunker.

Turn 41: Me

Over to the east, the Norwegians go over the hill, advancing right onto the trench.

In range of my LMG's and riflemen, one of Brody's snipers (which posed a huge threat to me) is about to get it.

A huge weight on my shoulders gone.

Turn 42: Brody

Brody is not happy about me advancing. He stays put.

He guns down one of my Norwegian riflemen. The first Norwegian casualty is the soldier I christened "Pte. Rosenberg" for the West German Army.

Turn 43: Me

A decent roll gets me 5 moves me even closer towards the trench.

I gun down 1 of Brody's officers and one of his LMGs.

Turn 44: Brody

Brody moves up 1 of his riflemen.

He guns down one more of my riflemen.

Turn 45: Me

Moving more units up to the trench. I didn't intend on taking the trench with my Norwegians, but I did it anyhow.

I shoot one of his riflemen down.

Turn 46: Brody

Another Norskie goes down.

Turn 47: Me

Norwegians finally storm the trench.

I kill another 2 riflemen. The Norwegians are on a roll! 

Turn 48: Brody

Brody finally gets wind that it's my LMG doing the dirty work, so he shoots him down. 

There were peace talks during dinner (which was Shepard’s Pie, yummy), and I can say with confidence that they were productive.
I successfully convinced Brody to end in a ceasefire.

Brody's forces surrender. 

I lost a total of 6 soldiers, which is nothing in comparison to the 10 Brody lost.
I'm not too sure of where/when the next game will be. I was really looking forward to using my US troops, but that didn't happen.

Maybe working on another set of rules

I have been looking at a lot of Great War miniatures on the Pendraken miniatures website.
I haven't really started working on the actual rules yet, but I have begun scheming for it. This set of rules with be compatible for 10mm, 15mm and 20mm scales as opposed to the 20mm scale of Standoff: Cold War. Truth be told, the actual name of the game isn't very suiting. I chose the name Standoff because the Cold War really was a, well... Standoff. I think a name change for this Great War set of rules would be necessary.
I don't know, what do you guys think?

Giant Rock build/Terrain Swop

Friday night... I got bored so I rummaged around the house, looking for snacks, something to do, etc. Dad didn't have anything for me to do, neither did mum or the ol' sister, so I took a look around my own environment (the basement) and found something to do.

It started with a little piece of styrofoam. I painted it grey and then let that dry for a little while.

After it got done drying, I put some glue on the top and sprinkled on some "turf slurry" (as I call it) which is really just a mixture of modelling flock, a few pinches of my dad's road sand (we use it for when our driveway gets icy) and some pebbles.

There it is! All done. Now, let's get to that terrain swop, shall we?

I decided that the "rock" that I got from our lizard cage wasn't quite doing the trick, so I swopped that out with a hill I made with my sister this past summer.

(After) WHAT'S THIS?!?!? The rock has vanished! Yes, it's been returned to my lizard.

I'd say he was quite happy with that.

Today's British buys

I went over to Syr Hobbs Wargames, fully intending to buy some Platoon 20 Post War British Infantry, but when I saw they were out, I went over to East Riding Miniatures and picked up a couple of sets of Post WWII British Infantry.
I'll show you the image that was given on the website of the sets I bought. Enjoy!

Here are some soldiers in Steel Helmets (well, most of them at least).

Of course I had to order some Scottish infantry! You all know I'm a sucker Scottish and Irish regiments, so I had to order some Scots, and maybe there will be some Irish later on.

These will more than likely be along in about 20 days or so because they're shipping from the UK. Stay tuned!

Cold War Canadian Infantry Company

I thought I'd give you a close up of some of the Canadians I painted a little while back. You've probably seen them in battle, but the pictures are maybe a little unclear, so here they are now.

The infantry company is in the back and an HQ platoon is up front.

Those are probably going to be all the Canadians that I'll be painting... ever. Unless I can get my hands on some more Liberation miniatures Israelis, then these Canadians are in a rather small force.

Standoff: Cold War basic sourcebook- Finally finished!

After 14 long pages, I finally finished the Standoff: Cold War sourcebook.

With exactly 61 different campaigns raging from South American jungles to Russian tundra, this is the basic guide to the rules Brody and I use for wargaming. I'd be happy to share those rules with anybody who's interested.

West German Air/Ground Defence Platoon

Using the last West German figures I have, I've completed painting a West German Air/Ground Defence platoon for Standoff: Cold War. (By the way, if anybody wants the rules, I'd be happy to e-mail you regarding the new rules of the game).

Since the coming attack on Brody's forces will be huge, I will probably be deploying these guys to the field as soon as possible. Stay tuned!

U.S. Cold War Battalion of Infantry... done, done and DONE

I've completed a whole battalion of generic American infantry for Standoff: Cold War. Here they are!

3 Companies and 1 Platoon make up my battalion of infantry, which I plan to use for a soon-pending full-frontal assault.

A Grenadier platoon

Here's A Coy. There are 4 riflemen in this company along with 2 support gunners, 1 grenadier and 1 anti-tank weapon.

B Coy. There are 5 riflemen in this platoon along with 2 grenadiers and 1 anti-tank weapon.

C Coy. Consists of 7 riflemen and 1 support gunner.

So, that's my U.S. Infantry battalion. There are a few more anti-tank weapons to paint along with 1 or 2 more infantry anti-aircraft soldiers to paint. The next to come is 2 or so platoons of West Germans.
